Believe
"Im sexy and I know it" blares on my iPhone as my alarm clock ringtone at 5AM this morning. Yes, that's right, that IS how I start my day when I plan to run early in the morning. I would challenge you to play that song or any fun, upbeat song like it and not want to move! Fun, happy music motivates me to get out of bed.
Now I know I have a little over an hour before my darling boy will wake and begin his day with several demands. God, love him. I slip my running gear on, lace up my sneaks, plug my ear pods in, tune into my favorite workout playlist via songza(amazing resource for workout tunes) and head out the door.
Thankfully the mornings are getting lighter and less spooky, although this morning was chilly at 32 degrees. Before our recent relocation, I had a group of women that I'd meet early in the morning to run with- fantastic ladies that I miss dearly! Having a running partner or partners is amazing and a huge motivator. I remember when my alarm would blare at 5AM and I would role over in my warm, cozy bed with tired eyes and have the urge to hit "snooze" or shut the alarm off. Knowing that those women were doing the exact same as me at that very moment but we all relied on each other to get our booties out of bed and run!
Today's run was a four mile easy run- seems as though I could eat four miles for breakfast given my 16 mile run on Sunday. Joke is on me! Ouch is the perfect word to sum Up todays run. My legs were tight and stiff and it seemed like four miles were ten! "Even some of the greatest athletes have bad exercise days". That is what I tell myself when I'm having these sort of runs.
During my runs, short or long, I do a lot of thinking. Today I thought about the word "believe". What does this word mean to me? Its been used in several circumstances in my life and its had very powerful meaning. Today my thoughts generated to this: I BELIEVE in ME! I believe that I am a good person, I have the confidence, I am the best mother I can be, I have the ability to change aspects of my life and I will achieve what is meaningful to me and what I work hard for.
