Run for the Love of it!
My heart and
mind say “run longer, run harder” while my body says “keep dreaming”! With sixteen weeks of training and the big
26.2 miles behind me, I had hoped to be gearing up to begin training for Beach
to Beacon 10K(B2B)….. the reality of
sore, tired, and overused muscles has hit me like a ton of bricks!
I have gotten
out three times since the marathon running about 4-5 miles each time at an easy
pace. If you read my blog during
marathon training when I was feeling like I probably looked as though I’d never ran
before because I was feeling so awkward after one of my first long distance
training runs, than you can certainly imagine how I was looking/feeling the first
time I ventured out this past week. Ouch!
I’ve come to
terms with the fact that I will not be setting a personal record at B2B this
year but I will indeed be running for the sole reason that I started this
journey, because I love to do it! I am
going to enjoy the beautiful course this year for what it is worth and soak it
in without trying to bust my butt to beat my time from last year.
Often times, I have to remind myself how lucky
I really am to be able to run the way that I can and am healthy enough to do
so. I practice being positive and grateful daily but we so often forget how fortunate we really are. Whether you’re thinking
about exercise, exercising daily, or an elite athlete, you should consider yourself lucky
to be able to move!
“Choosing to be
positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you're going
to live your life.” - Joel Osteen
